Pete forgot to mention the best part of our culinary adventure...breakfast. The morning of day two began with a feast of bacon (hmmm....bacon), eggs (cooked in bacon grease), and pancakes. A great meal on any day but especially good when you're out in the woods. We've collectively decided that fresh eggs and bacon will sarnade us every morning.
As for the ride, it went really well. The morning started out with a bang. We took a long steep decent down a series of washed out switchbacks. I tried to keep off the breaks but you had to slow down around the countless hairpins and blind turns (not to mention, keeping in contol of your ride). The road is barely big enough for two cars to pass, but the worn tiretracks indicates that everyone rides right down the middle. While blasting down the ringe, I had to slam on the breaks to keep from hitting them. People on the roads have been great. The rider up front will signal how many more riders to come and the drivers take extra precaution. The rest of the day was a good mix of inclines and decents. It was a healthy break from the torture going up last dollar pass.
On a personal note, I've oficially eaten a food that I'd sworn would never touch my lips. It is...SPAM. Yes, SPAM. The mystery meat that won the war has also become a necessary protien punch for the journey. I have to admit, it wasn't bad. Like tofu, it seems to take the flavor of what it's cooking companions. Tonight, it tasted like our spicy pasta. Another personal first for our journey.
So, i'm gonna sign off... Jim Beam in my cup...and a warm sleeping bag to keep me company.
